Background

During the summer conflict of 2006, 612 public schools were damaged, throughout Lebanon. Many of these schools have not been rebuilt, and many others unaffected by the war are in dire condition.

Need

As a result of the war and years of neglect and under investment, the schools in Lebanon are not suitable to provide high quality education to children. Priority needs include:

  • Rehabilitation of classrooms
  • Repair of water and sanitation systems
  • Improvement in community and parental involvement in school life
  • Training of teachers
  • Provision of educational, play and sports materials
  • Creation of safe sports facilities
  • General improvements in community public health infrastructure
